What Do You Think of Wish Lists?

Lately I've been surfing Amazon.com and browsing other folks' Wish Lists. This is an area of the site where you can add items that you would like to own. Upon notifying your friends and family of the list, they can then go there and shop for you on special occassions or basically just anytime they want.

I think this is a neat idea if used sparingly and it's a good way to learn what your friends and family actually like, but at the same time, I feel that it takes away from the joy of finding a gift for someone.

I also came across a Wish List that had nearly 400 items on it yesterday. That felt like overkill to me.

I'm trying to decide if I want to create one. I do think that it is a neat idea, but, it seems a bit materialistic as well.

What do you think?

It's the same thing as when couples register their gift choices for a wedding.
It's only a bad idea if they wish for the expensive stuff and expect everyone to get them for them.

Wish List
Unfortunatly, the only one who ever fills my wish list is me.. but the if I want something I usually buy it.. but for now I think I have enough toys.
