It's Gonna Be a Long Month...Sort of

I have a satellite system with two receivers, one that my parents use in the living room and one that I use here in the computer room. Well, last Monday afternoon around 5:30 p.m., the receiver on my parent's TV in the living room died, stopped working, went kaput. I called DirecTV (our satellite provider) and asked the Customer Service Rep. if I could upgrade my receivers. "Sure, no problem." was the reply. I thought for a minute and then asked if I could upgrade my receivers to DirecTV with DVR (Digital Video Recorder = No more video tapes unless I want to keep something for posterity naturally.) The CSR said "Sure, no problem." So, I ordered two new receivers with DVR built-in and we set up a professional installation by a technician for this past Friday, March 2 after 2:00 p.m.

At about 4:15 p.m., no one had shown up so I called DirecTV to see what the status was on the tech coming out. Turns out that the CSR I spoke with on Monday, February 26th never entered the work order into the computer. Although at one point I was also told that "something" had been entered into the computer on that Monday (they had no record of "what" the "something" was.), and that the aforementioned "something" had be marked "completed" on Wednesday, February 28th.

I hadn't seen hide nor hair of anyone from DirecTV and I passed this information on. We were able to get everything put into the computer system again the way that I want it, only this time the tech won't be able to come out until Friday March 23rd. So, I am effectively without a television to watch until then. We ended up unplugging the receiver for my television in the computer room and hooking it up on my parents TV in the living room. That's how we discovered that it was indeed their satellite receiver that went kablooey. Mine works just fine in there.

On the upside, with no TV in here to distract me, I'm able to get lots of work done, just for sheer entertainment (did I just type that?). I only have to make it through the next two weeks and five days (can you tell I'm counting?), and I'll be able to watch TV again.

I’m sorry I wasn’t there for our usual Sunday evening chat. Per usual in such events something came up. I'll explain next sunday.

It's ok D. I wasn't able to be on for long myself. At about 7:15, a friend of mine surprised me by coming over (with two pizzas in tow) to hang out.

Until next Sunday.

Did you leave part of the story out intentionally? :)

Only the part where the first CSR I talked to on Monday told me that all the upgrades would be free, and then the CSR that I talked to on Friday said they would be $198.00 PLUS $19.95 for SHIPPING. The first CSR said the equipment would arrive with the technician doing the upgrades and no shipping charges would apply.

I left that out because it makes me go "GRRRRRRR" when I think about it.
