The blogosphere is buzzing today with news that Amazon.com has begun flagging some GLBTQ books as "adult" material, and has removed the sales ranking of the books in question. The result of this is that those books that have been stripped of their sales ranking will not show up in any Amazon.com search results, making the books unavailable for sale at Amazon. Oddly though, all of the stripped books are still available on the Amazon Kindle.

This is not going to be good for Amazon as there are a lot of people who are outraged by this. I count myself among them. This is completely unacceptable and I will not tolerate it. My own personal plan is to hit Amazon where it will hurt the most: in the bottom line. I will not be making a purchase at Amazon.com until all of the books that have been affected by this have had their sales ranking restored and the books are once again available for purchase.

If you would like more information on this, you can read the original post where I first heard of it (thanks truepenny). The Web site, Smart Bitches, Trashy Books has more information, as well as a Google Bomb campaign, which you can participate in if you so wish. I am participating by posting this Amazon Rank link.

Amazon, you messed up. BIG TIME. Now you must face the wrath of customers who once appreciated, respected, and trusted you. Now it is your job to begin earning that appreciation, respect, and trust back. Speaking for myself, I do not easily re-trust once that trust has been broken. You have a long way to go to redeem yourself in my eyes.

What are you going to do now Amazon?
