A Time to Clean

I spent most of the afternoon cleaning up today. I have a tendency to let stuff like old junk mail, magazines, etc. pile up while I'm working and then when the piles get to be too much for me to stand, I get on a cleaning jag. One of the things that I want to do in the upcoming year is simplify my life as much as possible. So, I'm going to at least do some cleaning/organizing every day. That's the best way to stay up with everything. I almost filled up an entire trash bag today. I found myself asking the question, "Why do I keep all of this crap?" (Actually, I used another four-letter word that means the same thing, but you get the idea.)

Time for me to go get ready to tape this year's Kennedy Center Honors. This year, three of my favorites, Dolly Parton, Steven Spielberg, and Andrew Lloyd-Webber are being recognized.

I watched the Kenndy Center Honors, and unfortunately had to look at that jackass monkey face president.

Anyway... I thought I would like Alison Kraus' song the best, but was actually amazed by Shania Twain singing "Coat of Many Colors". It's actually better than he recorded version on the Dolly Tribute CD.

There are a few of Dolly's songs that are almost guaranteed to get me to tear up. Two of them were performed last night: "I Will Always Love You" and "Coat of Many Colors." Shania did do a great job with "Coat of Many Colors," but of course, nobody can hold a candle to the original.

I still need to get a copy of that tribute CD. That's one that I don't have a copy of yet

I did!!! I started downloading it at about 9:45 last night and it finished at about 2:00 this morning.

(dial up - hee.)

I love it!!!

There are some really good interpretations of Dolly's songs on there. Shania's version of "Coat of Many Colors" is virtually identical to the way it was performed on the "Kennedy Center Honors" on Tuesday night. The major exception being that Dolly didn't sing background at the Kennedy Center, Allison Krauss did.

Thank you!!!

AHHHH!!!

For some reason I didn't catch Allison in the background of "Coat of Many Colors" on the CD. I love her version of "9 to 5."

I wish Jessica Simpson hadn't made the producers cut her version of 9 to 5 from the broadcast, I would loved to have seen that.

I would have loved to have seen it too. I don't think that the excising of her performance was as much her doing as the general public is being told. As I understand it, it was more her father's doing. Apparently, he was NOT HAPPY with the way she performed when the show was taped. I heard he was ranting and raving and fussing at her after she went backstage.

We did get a glimpse of Jessica's arm though. When everyone who paid tribute to Dolly came back out on stage after the performances, Jessica was standing next to Reese Witherspoon. When the camera cut to Reese you could see Jessica's arm.
